Below are some of our most frequently asked questions regarding cultural lawn care practices.
How often should I mow my lawn?
We recommend only mowing your lawn when it needs it, which will vary with the time of year and the growing conditions. During the peak of the growing season, like spring and fall, your turf may require mowing every 3-4 days. In the summer months, you might be able to get away with mowing every week or every other week. Regardless of the season, it is important to mow your lawn consistently.
How short can I mow my lawn?
Allowing your grass to get too long and then scalping it, is very unhealthy and will only cause damage. For optimum results, never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time.
How often should I sharpen my mower blade?
Keep your mower blades sharp to create a clean, crisp cut that will heal quickly.Dull mower blades will chew and fray the ends of your grass blades, resulting in yellow grass tips, moisture loss and a weakened lawn. At Weed Man, we recommend sharpening your mower blades 2-3 times a season.

How much water does my lawn need?
Your lawn requires two inches of water per week to stay green and healthy.Monitor rainfall levels to determine how much and how often to water. Deep, infrequent watering is best, as it encourages deeper root growth.
For example, watering twice a week for an hour is better than watering every day for 15 minutes. Extra watering may be required as temperatures continue to rise during the peak of the summer heat.
When is the best time to water my lawn?
Watering early in the day will give you the best results. If you water in the afternoon when temperatures are at their peak, more water will evaporate before it has a chance to be absorbed into the soil. Evening or nighttime watering is also frowned upon, as leaving your lawn wet for an extended period can promote turf disease and fungal problems. If you ever notice that your lawn is appearing yellow, or dry, water immediately despite the time of day!
